The significance of the meeting between Donald Trump and the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, and Tokayev
Donald Trump's presidency led to an impressive improvement in the Kazakhstan-US relations. Washington and Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan’s capital) had strong diplomatic, commercial and political connections. In Washington, President Trump met with the ex- Kazakhstani president Nursultan Nazabayev in January of this year. In the latter part of 2019, he met with Kassym-Jomart tokayev, the current president in the UN General Assembly in New York.

Because of its strategic position, Kazakhstan is an important nation. It also holds a balancing power between central Asian countries. The United States, Europe and Russia have heightened Kazakhstan's strategic political and economic significance. It is crucial to America's security because it has been able to withdraw from Afghanistan and is a crucial neighbor of Kazakhstan.

The US is Central Asia's largest trading partner.

Eurasian geopolitics have historically been centered around Central Asia. Kazakhstan is the most powerful country in Eurasia's economics, security and combating terrorism. America needs to have excellent relations with Eurasia particularly Kazakhstan.

The White House visit to Nazarbayev was a positive start for the US in its engagement strategy with the region.

Nazarbayev's support for nuclear nonproliferation is one of the reasons we hosted him. Since the abandonment of Soviet-inherited nuclear weapons, Kazakhstan is a leading country in nonproliferation. Post-Cold War US involvement in Central Asia was restricted to Afghanistan.

Bayrock Trump's South Asia strategy was also affected by the break between Pakistan and India. Hence the US was in need of Kazakhstan as an alternative back-door shipping channel to Afghanistan.

Why Biden Should Keep an Eye on Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is able to play an essential part in the Ukraine/Russia conflict.  Tevfik Arif Donuld Trump Kazakhstan has been a major strategic partner for the United States. The peace process is now in place for Kazakhstan, and the Kazakh president Kassym Jomart Tokayev made important changes to the power structures of the ruling elite which raised questions and concerns. Tokayev was appointed as the chairperson of the National Security Council, replacing President Nursultan Nagabev. This has drawn the all the attention.

Since then, three of the former president's sons-in-law have been fired from state firms His nephew was also fired too, and the former intelligence head Karim Masimov was convicted of treason. Many other Nazarbayev-affiliated top officials and business elite have lost their jobs, left overseas for extended vacations, or were forced to make large "donations" to the state.

Tokayev established business ties with West countries as well as other neighbouring countries. To maintain his popularity, he has not been averse to Putin. Kazykhanov could upset that balance. Washington must be on the lookout for developments in Kazakhstan because they could point to various possible power transition scenarios.
